On the night of March 25, 1971, the Pakistan Army carried out genocide in the whole of Bangladesh including Dhaka. In Dhaka alone, 6 to 7 thousand ordinary people lost their lives that night in this genocide. In Bangladesh, this day is known as National Genocide Day. After 12 o'clock that night (early morning of March 26) Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared the independence of Bangladesh and the war of liberation started. Since Bangabandhu declared the independence of Bangladesh in the early hours of March 26, Bangladesh has been observing March 26 as "Independence Day" since 1972. Finally, on 16 December 1971, the Pakistani army surrendered and Bangladesh was victorious. This day has been celebrated as Bangladesh Victory Day since 1972. 2021 marks the 50th anniversary of the declaration of independence and victory in the war. Therefore, the year 2021 is celebrated as the "Golden Jubilee" to commemorate the 50th anniversary of independence. The Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh's Independence is an annual plan announced by the Government of Bangladesh to mark the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh's independence.
